National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Treasurer Barbara Nekesa Oundo has directed party structures across the country to shift their focus from political mobilization to economic mobilization, marking what she described as the party’s next priority following the conclusion of the general elections.
Speaking during a high-level coordination meeting with district, sub-county, and parish chairpersons at the NRM headquarters in Kampala, Nekesa said the period of intensive political campaigning had ended and that party leaders must now concentrate on supporting government programs aimed at improving household incomes and livelihoods.
“Political mobilization is over. We must now turn to economic mobilization to provide sustainable support for our government,” Nekesa told party officials.
As part of the new directive, she instructed parish chairpersons to compile comprehensive reports on the implementation and performance of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in their respective areas. The reports will be submitted to constituency chairpersons, who are Members of Parliament, as well as NRM district offices for review and follow-up action.
Nekesa said the reports would help the party monitor the effectiveness of government programs at the grassroots level and identify areas requiring intervention.
She also tasked parish leaders with preparing detailed status reports on Village LC1 flag bearers and submitting them to district offices, a move aimed at strengthening party structures and enhancing coordination at the village level.
The NRM Treasurer further urged party leaders to work closely with newly sworn-in Members of Parliament to ensure effective service delivery to communities.
“Support your newly sworn-in MPs to serve the people better. This will give them and the party an opportunity to earn the trust of voters and seek re-election in 2031,” she said.
Party officials say the directives will be implemented across all NRM structures nationwide, with increased monitoring expected on both PDM performance and grassroots leadership effectiveness.
Observers view the meeting as part of the NRM’s broader post-election strategy to consolidate support by emphasizing economic empowerment, service delivery, and the successful implementation of government programs.
The renewed focus on economic mobilization comes as the government continues to roll out initiatives aimed at boosting household incomes, expanding access to credit, and accelerating local economic development through the Parish Development Model.
