Two suspected notorious land grabbers have been remanded to prison after being arraigned before the Mukono Chief Magistrate’s Court on multiple charges related to the alleged illegal occupation and destruction of property on privately owned land in Mukono District.

The suspects, Kayongo Bonniface and Kisekka Hamuza, were jointly charged following investigations conducted by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

According to the prosecution, the accused face charges of malicious damage to property, destroying growing plants, forcible entry, and forcible detainer arising from an alleged land-grabbing incident that occurred between October and November 2025 in Luwunga Village, Nama Sub-county, Mukono District.

Court heard that the accused, together with other suspects still at large, allegedly forcefully entered land comprised in Block 167, Plot 81, Kyaggwe, measuring approximately 311 acres. The land is registered in the name of Stella Kiwanuka, who serves as the administrator of the estate of the late Joseph Musanze Kiwanuka.

Prosecutors further allege that during the unlawful occupation, the suspects stole four metallic water tanks and water pumping machines, while also causing extensive damage to four residential houses on the property.

In addition, the accused are alleged to have uprooted and destroyed a wide range of crops and plantations, including maize, cassava, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, banana plantations, eucalyptus trees, and other vegetation. The total value of the damaged and stolen property is estimated at approximately UGX 1 billion.

The court remanded the two accused to prison until 22 June 2026, when they are expected to reappear as investigations and prosecution of the case continue. Authorities have indicated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects who remain at large.
