The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) has arrested three officials from Kayunga District over their alleged involvement in a job-selling racket accused of extorting money from desperate job seekers with promises of securing government employment.
The suspects have been identified as Dickson Ssebbowa, the Secretary to the Kayunga District Service Commission (DSC); Abdul Munulo, the District Human Resource Officer; and Prossy Nalujja, a clinical officer at Wabwoko Health Centre III.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the three are suspected to be part of a wider network that allegedly solicited money from individuals seeking employment in the district. Authorities believe the syndicate has been operating for some time, with several other suspects still on the run.
Investigators allege that the group demanded money from job applicants in exchange for promises of securing positions within the district local government. However, many of the victims reportedly never received the jobs they had paid for, prompting whistleblowers to report the alleged scheme to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
Nalujja is alleged to have served as an intermediary, collecting money from job seekers and delivering it to officials believed to be behind the recruitment scam.
The arrests form part of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit’s ongoing nationwide crackdown on corruption in public service recruitment, an area that has repeatedly attracted complaints from Ugandans seeking government employment.
The Unit says it has intensified investigations into fraudulent recruitment practices across the country, warning public officials against exploiting vulnerable job seekers for personal gain.
Authorities have indicated that investigations into the Kayunga case are still ongoing and that more arrests are expected as detectives pursue other individuals suspected to have participated in the alleged racket.
The suspects are expected to face charges upon completion of investigations.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit was established under the directive of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to investigate and combat corruption in public institutions, with a particular focus on protecting public resources and ensuring accountability in government service delivery.
