Uganda is mourning the death of veteran statesman and former First Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. Moses Ali, who passed away on Saturday afternoon at Nakasero Hospital.
According to a statement released by Capt. Mike Mukula, Gen. Moses Ali died at 4:25 p.m., as confirmed by his family.
Mukula described the deceased as a distinguished patriot, freedom fighter and statesman whose decades of public service left an enduring mark on Uganda’s political and governance landscape.
“Uganda has lost one of her finest sons,” Mukula said.
He noted that Gen. Moses Ali dedicated his life to promoting peace, national unity, stability and the reconstruction of Uganda, serving the country in various senior government positions over several decades.
Mukula extended his condolences to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Government and people of Uganda, the family of the late Gen. Moses Ali, and the people of Adjumani District, the West Nile sub-region and the entire nation.
Gen. Moses Ali was one of Uganda’s longest-serving political leaders and a prominent figure in the country’s post-independence history. Throughout his career, he held several key ministerial positions and most recently served as First Deputy Prime Minister before leaving Cabinet.
His death marks the end of a long career in public service that spanned decades and saw him play significant roles in Uganda’s political, security and development sectors.
Government is expected to announce funeral arrangements and official burial programmes in due course.
