Hon. Asha Nabulo Rallies Ugandans To Eliminate Malaria, Praises Leaders Delivering Real Change

Sironko District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Asha Mafabi Nabulo has called on Ugandans to unite in the fight against malaria while urging political leaders to champion development initiatives that deliver lasting benefits to their communities.

Hon. Nabulo made the remarks during separate engagements over the weekend, where she advocated for improved public health and praised leadership that prioritises service delivery.

She first joined the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, at the launch of the Malaria Walk, a nationwide awareness campaign aimed at strengthening efforts to eliminate malaria and reduce the disease’s burden across Uganda.

The event brought together political leaders, health professionals, development partners and members of the public to promote malaria prevention, early diagnosis and timely treatment, particularly for children and pregnant women who remain the most vulnerable to the disease.

Addressing participants, Hon. Nabulo emphasised that defeating malaria requires active community participation alongside government interventions.

She encouraged Ugandans to consistently sleep under insecticide-treated mosquito nets, maintain clean surroundings by eliminating mosquito breeding sites, and seek immediate medical attention whenever malaria symptoms appear.

She noted that collective responsibility and adherence to preventive measures are essential if Uganda is to reduce malaria-related illnesses and deaths.

Later, Hon. Nabulo attended a thanksgiving ceremony organised by West Budama North East MP Hon. Richard Owere Machika in Tororo District, where she commended him for what she described as exemplary servant leadership.

The ceremony attracted political, religious and cultural leaders, as well as hundreds of residents who gathered to celebrate Hon. Owere’s election and reaffirm their commitment to the constituency’s development.

Congratulating the legislator on his victory, Hon. Nabulo said effective leadership should be measured by tangible improvements in people’s lives rather than political rhetoric.

“Leadership is about serving the people and responding to their needs. When leaders invest in projects that improve healthcare, education and livelihoods, they earn the trust and confidence of the communities they represent,” she said.

She specifically applauded Hon. Owere for supporting healthcare delivery through the donation of ambulances, saying the initiative has strengthened emergency medical services and improved access to healthcare, especially in rural communities where transport remains a major challenge.

Hon. Nabulo called on leaders across the country to emulate such practical interventions, arguing that sustainable national development depends on accountable leadership and investments that directly address the needs of citizens.

In his remarks, Hon. Richard Owere Machika thanked the people of West Budama North East Constituency for entrusting him with leadership and pledged to fulfil the promises he made during his election campaign.

He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with government agencies, local leaders and development partners to improve healthcare, education, infrastructure and household incomes across the constituency.

The thanksgiving ceremony concluded with prayers, messages of gratitude and renewed calls for unity as leaders encouraged residents to work together in advancing the socio-economic transformation of West Budama North East Constituency.
