Namyalo To Nakawa Vendors: Escaping Poverty In Museveni’s New Term Is Mandatory

The Senior Presidential Advisor and Manager of the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has challenged vendors in Nakawa Market to seize President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s new term in office as an opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty through government wealth creation programmes.

Speaking on Wednesday evening while officiating at the finals of a football tournament organized by Nakawa Market vendors at Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, Namyalo said the President’s renewed mandate should inspire every Ugandan to improve household incomes and achieve financial independence.

Addressing thousands of traders, football fans and local leaders who turned up for the colorful event, the ONC Manager urged vendors to actively embrace government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga and other wealth creation programmes aimed at transforming livelihoods.

“Getting out of poverty in Museveni’s new Kisanja is mandatory,” Namyalo declared, drawing applause from the crowd.

She emphasized that poverty eradication begins with individual commitment, encouraging traders to organize themselves into productive groups, access government support and invest in income-generating ventures capable of improving their families’ standards of living.

Namyalo also called on market vendors to remain united, saying unity is essential for economic progress and community development. She noted that government programmes can only achieve their intended impact if citizens participate actively and responsibly.

“The President has consistently introduced programmes designed to uplift ordinary Ugandans economically. It is now our responsibility to embrace these opportunities and transform our households,” she said.

The ONC Manager further praised Nakawa Market leaders for using sports as a tool to foster unity and peaceful coexistence among traders, saying football tournaments not only strengthen social cohesion but also help identify and nurture sporting talent among young people.

The tournament, which kicked off late last month, ended with Kasoli FC emerging champions. Namyalo rewarded the winners with UGX1 million in cash, while runners-up Nyanya FC received UGX500,000. Nyama FC walked away with UGX300,000 after finishing third, while Cassava Vendors FC received UGX200,000 in recognition of their participation.

She described the competition as a perfect example of how sports can be used to bring communities together while promoting discipline, teamwork and collective responsibility.

Namyalo reaffirmed the Office of the National Chairman’s commitment to supporting grassroots initiatives that empower ordinary Ugandans and complement the government’s broader socio-economic transformation agenda.

She said the ONC will continue engaging communities across the country to promote government programmes intended to increase household incomes, create employment opportunities and improve livelihoods, particularly among youth, women and informal sector workers.

The event was attended by the Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Minsa Kabanda, market leaders, local officials, vendors and hundreds of supporters who witnessed the tournament finale.

Over the past several years, Hajjat Namyalo has intensified grassroots mobilization through the Office of the National Chairman, encouraging Ugandans to take advantage of government wealth creation initiatives, including the Parish Development Model, Emyooga and other empowerment programmes aimed at reducing poverty and improving household incomes across the country.
