Kayunga: Four months after the burial of Kayunga District NRM Chairman Moses Kalangwa, his family is embroiled in a dispute over his estate.
Kalangwa was laid to rest in May 2026 following a fatal road accident. At the time, President Museveni eulogized him as a loyal cadre who had contributed to socio-economic transformation, while in Kayunga he was widely known as a businessman and farmer with interests in sugar, farming and real estate.
According to a police report, Kalangwa died after the Toyota Double Cabin he was traveling in overturned along the Kayunga-Jinja Highway near Ssuka, when the driver swerved to avoid a motorcyclist. He was first taken to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital before being transferred to Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, where he died.
The late chairman’s children now say they have been left out of the management and benefits of the family estate.
The children allege that all family properties including buildings, farms and sugar estates are now under the sole control of one family member, Kirabo Kalangwa, and that they have no access to proceeds for upkeep and education.
“Our stepmother confiscated all the buildings, farms, and sugar estates. She collects all the money. We don’t know what to do,” one daughter said.

The dispute mirrors a common challenge in Uganda, where the death of a prominent family head is often followed by disagreements over succession and property management, particularly in families with complex structures.
The children say they are seeking mediation and a formal succession process to ensure the estate is managed transparently and that all beneficiaries are catered for.
The matter remains a family dispute, with no court pronouncement yet on the management of the estate.
