The State Minister for Microfinance and National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for the Central Region, Hon. Hajji Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, today presided over the graduation of 375 young patriots—all medical students—who successfully completed an intensive seven-day patriotism course at Masaka School of Comprehensive Nursing.

Delivering an impassioned keynote address, Minister Kasolo lauded the graduates’ commitment and articulated a bold vision for embedding patriotism into Uganda’s future.

He began by congratulating the cohort on their milestone, before issuing a significant policy call: that patriotism education should be enshrined in the national curriculum as a compulsory program rather than an optional co-curricular activity. He further proposed that a certificate of completion for patriotism training become a prerequisite for deployment in government service.

Addressing institutional challenges raised during the event by Deputy Principal Mr. Acheda Daniel, Minister Kasolo acknowledged the school’s longstanding infrastructural inadequacies, which have hampered student enrollment. He pledged to mobilize and engage all relevant stakeholders to secure a sustainable remedy to these constraints.

At the heart of his message was an appeal to unity and integrity. He urged the young patriots to foster mutual love, reject sectarian tendencies, and actively combat corruption. True patriotism, he emphasized, demands prioritizing Uganda’s interests above all else—specifically exhorting the soon-to-be medical professionals to “prioritize the health of the people before money.”

In his closing remarks, Minister Kasolo charged the graduates to serve as emissaries of the NRM’s founding principles. He called on them to embody and champion Pan-Africanism, democracy, and socio-economic transformation both in their personal and professional spheres.

The ceremony underscored the government’s ongoing drive to inculcate national values in Uganda’s next generation of professionals, positioning patriotism as an essential pillar of service and leadership.
