Thousands of National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters on Sunday thronged Bulenge Playground in Bigasa Subcounty, Bukomansimbi District, for a thanksgiving rally celebrating Hajji Shafiq Mwanje’s election as Chairperson of the NRM People with Disabilities (PWDs) League and his elevation to the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).

The colorful event turned into a powerful display of unity and mobilization, as district leaders and supporters vowed to strengthen the Movement ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The Chief Guest, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, the Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), used the occasion to warn residents against community injustices such as land grabbing, corruption, and extortion in government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM).

“Anyone caught extorting money from residents in the name of PDM or other government programs will face serious consequences. These initiatives are meant to uplift you, not enrich a few selfish individuals,” Namyalo declared, urging locals to stay vigilant and report wrongdoers.

District leaders seized the moment to rally support for NRM flag bearers and President Yoweri Museveni, pledging to reclaim Bukomansimbi from opposition hands.

Mr. Salim Kisekka, the NRM flag bearer for Bukomansimbi North, commended Namyalo’s relentless mobilization efforts and called for unity to secure victory in 2026. Ms. Ruth Katusabe, the Woman MP flag bearer, described Mwanje’s election to the CEC as a milestone for inclusivity and a bridge between grassroots voices and the national leadership.

In a symbolic gesture, jubilant supporters presented Mwanje with goats, chicken, and a bull, appreciating his consistent advocacy for persons with disabilities and community empowerment.

Addressing the crowd, Hajji Mwanje expressed gratitude to the people of Bukomansimbi and promised to use his new position to champion inclusion and development.

“My dream is to empower people with disabilities and unite our community. We must put hatred aside and rally behind the NRM and President Museveni because unity is the only way we shall defeat the opposition,” he said to thunderous applause.

Local residents praised Mwanje’s contributions, including his role as Director of Excel Vocational School in Nakaseke, his efforts to install solar security lights, and his initiatives to curb crime in trading centers.

Bukomansimbi RDC Kyasanku Lukubo Charles also applauded Namyalo’s empowerment programs and hailed Mwanje’s commitment, urging other cadres to follow his example.

The rally also marked the official launch of the Buganda Tweyambe initiative, through which thousands of youths and women received wealth creation tools such as sewing machines, sprayers, popcorn makers, stoves, coffee seedlings, hoes, toolboxes, and electric fryers. The program aligns with President Museveni’s vision of lifting households out of poverty through socioeconomic transformation.

The day ended on a celebratory note with entertainment headlined by singer Gravity Omutujju, blending politics, culture, and empowerment into a memorable community event.
