Kawempe – Women activist and staunch NRM mobilizer and supporter Nakamya Fatiah has officially announced her decision to contest as an Independent candidate for the Kawempe South Woman MP seat, vowing to “fight for genuine representation” and “restore respect for the people on the ground.”

Addressing journalists in Kawempe, Nakamya said her decision followed what she described as “persistent undermining” by party officials whom she accused of sidelining hardworking mobilizers in favor of “flag bearers” whom she accuses of fraudulently grabbing her victory in recently held party primaries.

“We are ready to stand as independents, not because we hate our party, but because we love it. We love His Excellency the President and we want to win for him. But some people have made us feel like we are nothing,” Nakamya said passionately.

She emphasized that her campaign is centered on service delivery, unity, and respect for the grassroots, pledging to champion the needs of single mothers, youth, men, and women who have been “ignored for too long.”

“This time around in Kawempe South, we are voting for capacity — not popularity or colors. We want leaders who have pain for the people, who understand poverty and the struggles of our communities,” she added.

Nakamya thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the Attorney General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, for their efforts to reconcile internal party misunderstandings but criticized “some party actors” for frustrating unity efforts.

She urged her supporters to turn up in large numbers on 22nd October for her nomination, describing it as the beginning of a new movement for empowerment and inclusive leadership.

“We are standing independently, but we shall return to our party after winning. We want victory for our people, for our party, and for His Excellency,” she affirmed.

Nakamya concluded her address with a renewed call for peace, development, and loyalty to President Museveni, insisting that “no one will replace His Excellency” and that Kawempe South remains solidly behind the NRM agenda.
