Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, the National Vice Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for the Central Region and Minister for Microfinance, has called on leaders in Mukono District to embrace integrity, discipline, and genuine service to the people as the foundation of good leadership. He urged them to rise above self-interest and avoid making empty promises.
Hon. Kasolo made the remarks while addressing the Mukono District Leaders’ Conference held at Colline Hotel, Mukono. The meeting brought together a wide range of participants, including NRM flag bearers for parliamentary and local government positions, chairpersons, councilors, religious leaders, headteachers, security officers, and members of the business community.
The conference was attended by several prominent figures, among them Lt. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso, Assistant Inspector General of Police Moses Kafeero Kabugo, Hon. Rosemary Sseninde Nansubuga, Hon. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, and members of the Mukono Think Tank.
In his opening remarks, Mukono NRM District Chairperson Hajji Harunah Ssemakula welcomed the attendees and commended Al Hajji Kasolo and other national leaders for their continued support and guidance. He highlighted key government achievements in the district, including the completion of the Mukono–Katosi–Nyenga Road and ongoing works under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Program (GKMA–UDP). He also noted the growth of local industries that have created jobs and boosted revenue.
Mukono District Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Henry Ddamba emphasized the responsibility of public servants to communicate government programs and achievements clearly to the public. He said transparency is essential to fulfilling the NRM manifesto and helps citizens understand how initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) are being implemented. He also urged full preparedness ahead of an upcoming visit by the President of Uganda.
Resident District Commissioner Hajjat Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka thanked Al Hajji Kasolo and Gen. Nalweyiso for their continued support to the people of Mukono. She encouraged leaders at all levels to engage directly with their communities and create awareness about ongoing government projects such as the construction of schools, health centers, and roads, as well as empowerment programs like PDM and Emyoga.
Lt. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso called for unity among Mukono leaders and warned against divisions and internal rivalry. She stressed that development and stability can only be achieved through cooperation and mutual respect. She pledged her support to NRM flag bearers and urged them to work together rather than compete destructively.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo reminded leaders that honesty and moral conduct are essential in public service. He encouraged them to focus on service delivery, avoid selfishness, and refrain from making promises they cannot keep. “Leaders should tell the people the truth about what government has done and what it can do. Do not promise what you cannot fulfill,” he said.
The conference concluded with a renewed call for Mukono’s leaders to embrace integrity, unity, and transparency in their work. With clear guidance from Hon. Kasolo and other senior NRM officials, the message was unmistakable: leaders must cooperate, communicate truthfully, and focus on delivering tangible development that improves lives and strengthens trust between citizens and their government.
