Boma Grounds in Mbarara City erupted into excitement on Monday as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairman, received one of the most overwhelming receptions of the 2026 campaign season. The extraordinary turnout was attributed to Prosper Tuhaise Kururagire, the highly influential NRM Chairman for Mbarara District, whose meticulous mobilisation delivered thousands of enthusiastic supporters from across the region.

Prosper, long celebrated for his dynamic grassroots networks and commitment to party structures, led youth groups, women organisations, farmers’ associations and several community clusters in a united demonstration of loyalty to President Museveni. The crowd echoed one clear message: that Museveni should return to State House for another term as the only trusted leader capable of safeguarding the region’s progress.

To many in western Uganda, Prosper has become the engine behind the renewed political energy sweeping through the region. His unwavering dedication, including the construction of the NRM district office using his own resources, has given local party structures a new lease of life. Under his stewardship, large sections of the region have become virtually impenetrable for the opposition. This shift was evident in the recent cancellation of Robert Kyagulanyi’s planned Bwizibwera rally after National Unity Platform (NUP) organisers found the area overwhelmingly mobilised in favour of President Museveni, a mobilisation Prosper had spearheaded for days.

With the political tide visibly transformed, many residents now express the belief that the 2026 presidential race has only one credible contender. President Yoweri Museveni. To them, the rest of the candidates are simply accompanying him in a journey whose outcome is already clear.

Back to Boma rally, when he took to the podium, Prosper, wearing NRM colours and speaking to an electrified crowd, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for uniting Ugandans and dismantling the sectarian divisions that had torn previous regimes apart. He said the NRM has offered stability, peace and a shared national identity, particularly in Mbarara and the Ankole sub-region, where unity has become a defining hallmark of the community.

Prosper also delivered the people’s appreciation for the newly improved Mbarara to Ibanda road, a development that has accelerated growth throughout the region and transformed Rubindi Town Council into a fast-rising commercial hub. He appealed to the President to consider the construction of another key route, the Biharwe to Bwizibwera road, which he said would stand as a permanent reminder of NRM’s legacy of transformation.

The NRM district chairman further applauded government investments in UPE and USE schools but asked for more Seed Secondary Schools to serve growing communities, saying several sub-counties still lacked adequate facilities. He also urged the President to intervene fully in eliminating illegal school fees in government schools, arguing that free education would leave a lasting legacy for the young people growing up under Museveni’s leadership.

Prosper commended the ongoing Parish Development Model but appealed for enhanced funding, noting that increased investment would accelerate the fight against household poverty.

Further, he urged President Museveni to return to Mbarara for a more in-depth engagement with the district’s bazzukulu. They, he said, had expressed firm support for Museveni’s leadership and were eager to see him continue for another five years as a gesture of appreciation for the visionary leadership and sacrifices he has brought to Uganda.

In his address, President Museveni thanked Prosper Tuhaise Kururagire for championing the message of free education and strengthening grassroots mobilisation across the district. He reiterated that universal education was crucial for building a modern, empowered and economically productive population.

Museveni also confirmed that the government would construct the Biharwe to Bwizibwera road in the next term, although he emphasised that infrastructure alone was insufficient without deliberate efforts to increase household incomes.

The President reminded the crowd of the NRM’s historic achievements, including the restoration of peace after decades of instability and the rejection of sectarianism that allowed the creation of strong institutions such as the army, police and judiciary. He highlighted progress in national infrastructure, noting improvements in the road network and the significant expansion of electricity coverage.

Museveni rallied voters from both Mbarara City and Mbarara District to support NRM flagbearers in the 2026 elections, reaffirming that the party had consistently delivered on its promises and remained the torchbearer of stability and development.

Monday’s massive rally further cemented Prosper Tuhaise Kururagire’s reputation as one of NRM’s most formidable mobilisers. His influence continues to shape the political landscape of western Uganda, strengthening President Museveni’s support and reaffirming the region’s position as one of the ruling party’s most steadfast strongholds.

As chants of unity and continuity echoed across Boma Grounds, one truth stood out unmistakably: the people of Mbarara remain firmly behind President Museveni, and Prosper Tuhaise Kururagire is the driving force powering that unwavering loyalty. Stay tuned for more updates!
