Police in Old Kampala have recovered an AK-47 rifle at Tausi Bus Terminal in Bukesa Parish, Kampala Central Division, following a suspicious incident involving an unidentified passenger.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on April 14, 2026, at around 5:00am as a bus conductor was loading passengers onto a bus destined for Mbarara. The conductor was approached by a man who requested that his luggage be transported.

As part of routine safety checks, the conductor asked the passenger to open the bag for inspection, but the man declined, raising suspicion. The conductor proceeded to physically examine the luggage and felt an object resembling a firearm, prompting him to immediately alert authorities.

A police task team responded swiftly to the scene and, upon inspection, recovered an AK-47 rifle concealed inside a white polythene bag, which had been placed within another bag. The weapon had an empty magazine and contained no ammunition.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived and is currently on the run. Authorities have launched a manhunt to identify and apprehend him.

Police have commended the vigilance of the bus conductor, noting that his quick action helped prevent a potentially dangerous situation. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
