Police in Bushenyi District have launched a manhunt for a bus driver who fled the scene after a head-on collision that left two people injured along the Ishaka–Mbarara road.

The Friday morning crash occurred near Peak Hotel, close to the former Banyankole Kweteraana Cooperative factory, and involved a Global bus, registration number UBE 159N, and an Isuzu tipper truck, registration number UBK 390M.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the bus driver attempted to overtake three vehicles before colliding head-on with the oncoming tipper truck.

According to Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson Apollo Tayebwa, two people sustained injuries in the crash, but no fatalities were recorded.

“The driver fled immediately after the accident, and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing,” Tayebwa said.

Police have attributed the crash to reckless driving and overspeeding, warning motorists to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents.

Authorities say investigations are continuing as efforts intensify to track down the fleeing driver.
