Residents of Kinuuka Sub-county in Lyantonde District yesterday joined the rest of the country in celebrating the swearing-in of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the newly elected President of Uganda for the 2026–2031 term.

President Museveni, who has led Uganda since 1986, officially began his seventh term after securing victory in the recently concluded general elections with the highest number of votes.

To commemorate the occasion, residents of Kinuuka Sub-county, led by former Kabula parliamentary aspirant Cypriano Kabeera Gasana, organised a community clean-up exercise aimed at improving local roads and protecting the gains of peace and development achieved over the years.

Speaking during the exercise, Kabeera congratulated President Museveni upon his re-election and wished him peace, security, and prosperity during his new term in office.

He noted that several community roads in the area had become bushy and full of potholes, creating danger for road users and demanding urgent intervention from residents themselves.

Kabeera added that poor road conditions had contributed to a number of accidents and loss of lives, urging residents not to always wait for government intervention for simple community responsibilities that can be handled collectively through communal work.

The LCIII Chairperson of Kinuuka Sub-county, Jackson Serukera, said that although residents were celebrating the continued peace and stability under President Museveni’s leadership, there were still gaps within the security system.

Serukera alleged that some suspected criminals arrested over theft cases are often released without proper investigations, something he said has frustrated residents.

He further revealed that cases of insecurity remain rampant in the sub-county, with thieves targeting livestock such as goats, cows, and pigs during night hours. He also raised concern over increasing theft of coffee from gardens, calling upon security agencies to strengthen operations in the area.

Godfrey Sekiwunga, a boda boda rider operating at Kinuuka Stage, said clearing roadside bushes would greatly reduce accidents, especially for milk transporters who frequently use the roads.

Another resident, Tweheyo Richard, a farmer, emphasized the importance of community work, particularly along the Rwamiramira–Kinuuka road where several accidents have reportedly occurred.

He cited cases of victims who suffered severe injuries, including Councillor Tumuhirwe, who was reportedly left lame after an accident on the road.

Tweheyo also expressed concern over rising theft and alleged corruption within the justice system, claiming that pigs he acquired through the Parish Development Model (PDM) were stolen and that suspects arrested in connection to the case were later released.

He called upon government authorities to tighten security across Lyantonde District to safeguard both residents and their property.
