Newly sworn-in Woman Member of Parliament for Masaka City, Justin Nameere, has been reportedly arrested this evening by armed military operatives shortly after participating in her thanksgiving events.

Eyewitnesses said Nameere was picked up from Tropic Inn by unidentified armed men travelling in an unmarked military “drone” vehicle and driven to an unknown destination. The incident took place just hours after she had been officially sworn in as MP for the 2026–2031 parliamentary term, sparking confusion and concern among her supporters.

The reported arrest comes amid heightened political tensions linked to internal disagreements within ruling party circles and the ongoing debate surrounding the parliamentary Speakership. Nameere had recently made public statements defending Speaker Anita Annet Among while also engaging in a sharp exchange with Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General Daudi Kabanda over internal political positions and criticism.

Earlier in the day, Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba issued remarks on social media that were widely interpreted as warning political actors involved in escalating disputes within ruling establishment factions, further fueling speculation about the broader political context surrounding the incident.

“I advise some ladies to steer clear of some of these issues. It doesn’t matter how many times Mzee calls you. That doesn’t make you amount to anything!” Muhoozi posted on X.

He later escalated tensions with more hardline remarks.

“Those who doubt my power in my country. Try me now and find out,” he wrote, before adding: “No one should even dream of trying me. I will not stop for anything.”

By press time, neither the Uganda People’s Defence Forces nor the Police had issued an official statement confirming or explaining the reported arrest, nor had they disclosed the whereabouts of the legislator.
