Security agencies on Wednesday intensified their sweeping investigation into former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among after recovering additional high-end vehicles from her residence in Nakasero, as part of an expanding probe into alleged corruption, money laundering and abuse of office.
The latest operation was carried out by a joint task force comprising the Police Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and state anti-corruption agencies. Officers arrived at the upscale MacKinnon Road residence with low-bed police carriers under tight security and towed away at least four luxury vehicles.
Among the vehicles impounded were a Sports Utility Vehicle bearing registration number UBH 138W and a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number UA 630 BE. Sources close to the investigation said the recovered fleet also included a bulletproof SUV and a custom sports car.
The Wednesday seizure is the latest development in a series of coordinated raids targeting properties linked to Among in Kampala and Wakiso District.
The operation began on Saturday afternoon when more than 15 police vehicles, vans and minibuses descended on her Nakasero home. A truck blocked access to the road while uniformed officers secured the compound and plainclothes operatives conducted extensive searches of the premises.
Before nightfall, investigators were seen loading several black suitcases into a police van and transporting them to an undisclosed location. Authorities have not disclosed the contents of the luggage.
On Sunday, the investigation expanded to other properties associated with the former Speaker, including residences in Kigo, Wakiso District, and Ntinda in Nakawa Division.
On Monday, security agencies impounded Among’s Rolls-Royce Cullinan, a 2025 model bearing registration number UA 426EH and estimated to be worth approximately Shs3.4 billion.
Investigators are examining allegations of corruption, illicit enrichment, money laundering and abuse of office. Sources indicate that the scope of the investigation is widening, with several Members of Parliament, parliamentary staff and officials connected to Among’s office expected to be questioned.
The Inspectorate of Government has also confirmed that it has launched a separate preliminary inquiry into petitions filed against Among concerning her wealth and conduct.
Wednesday’s developments have further heightened political tensions in Kampala and sent shockwaves through Uganda’s political establishment, where the investigation is being closely watched as part of the government’s broader anti-corruption campaign.
Among had not issued a public statement on the latest searches and seizures by Wednesday evening.
