Prof Muganga Seeks UK Partnership To Boost AI, Research At Victoria University

Victoria University has taken a step towards expanding its international partnerships after holding high-level talks with officials at the British High Commission focused on enhancing higher education, research collaboration and innovation.
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Lawrence Muganga, led a Victoria University delegation to the British High Commission, where they met Political Counsellor Nigel Holmes and his team to discuss opportunities for deeper collaboration between the institution and the United Kingdom.

The discussions centred on strengthening partnerships that would expand opportunities for students through collaborative research, student exchange programmes and Work Integrated Learning initiatives.
The meeting also explored potential partnerships between Victoria University and UK technology companies to advance artificial intelligence research and develop innovative solutions to address real-world societal challenges.
Speaking after the meeting, the Prof Muganga described the discussions as productive and forward-looking, expressing optimism about the prospects for closer cooperation.
“We had an engaging conversation about the future of higher education and the power of international partnerships to widen opportunities for our students. From collaborative research and student mobility to expanding Work Integrated Learning, we explored practical ways to strengthen our ties,” he said.
He added that collaboration in emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, could unlock new opportunities for innovation and position students to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy.
“We also discussed how Victoria University can partner with UK technology companies to advance artificial intelligence and develop solutions to real societal challenges,” Prof Muganga noted.
The Vice Chancellor thanked Political Counsellor Nigel Holmes and the British High Commission team for hosting the delegation and fostering open discussions on areas of mutual interest.
“My sincere thanks to Mr Holmes and the entire team at the British High Commission for the invitation, their warm hospitality and the openness that shaped our discussions. The road ahead is full of promise, and I am excited about what we can build together,” he said.
