The accident involved a military vehicle attached to the 5th Infantry Division Training School at Labwordwong Military Barracks. The truck was reportedly carrying soldiers to the 4th Infantry Division Barracks in Gulu when it overturned under circumstances that had not been officially explained by the time of publication.
According to preliminary reports, the injured soldiers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment.
The exact cause of the accident remains unknown, and the UPDF had not yet issued an official statement on the incident by press time.
Conflicting reports emerged on social media following the crash, with some users claiming that several soldiers had died and that more than 20 others were in critical condition. However, those claims could not be independently verified, and no official fatalities had been confirmed.
Images circulating online showed the military truck lying upside down beside the road, while other photographs appeared to show injured soldiers receiving assistance from rescuers and fellow security personnel.
The journey reportedly began at Labwordwong Military Barracks in Agago District, with the soldiers en route to the 4th Infantry Division headquarters in Gulu City when the accident occurred.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash to establish its cause.
By the time this story was filed, the UPDF had not released details regarding the identities of the injured soldiers, the total number of casualties, or the events leading to the accident.
The incident adds to a series of recent road crashes involving government and security vehicles, renewing concerns about road safety and the need for thorough investigations into accidents involving official transport.
