Bloody: 35 Killed, Dozens Injured After Two Buses Collide!

    By Swift Reporter

At least 35 people have been killed and about 30 others injured following a devastating head-on collision between two buses on a major highway linking the Syrian capital, Damascus, to the eastern province of Deir el-Zour.

The tragic accident occurred on Saturday along the Deir el-Zour–Damascus highway, between the towns of al-Sukhnah and Palmyra, one of Syria’s most important transport corridors connecting the country’s east to the capital.

According to Syria’s state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), one of the buses was transporting members of the Internal Security Forces, while the other was carrying civilian passengers.

The Syrian Ministry of Health confirmed that at least 35 people lost their lives in the crash, while around 30 others sustained injuries of varying severity.

Emergency response teams, including ambulances and military helicopters, were swiftly dispatched to the scene to rescue survivors and transport the injured for treatment.

SANA reported that several military helicopters participated in the operation, airlifting critically injured victims to Homs Military Hospital as rescue efforts continued.

Authorities have not yet established the cause of the collision, and investigations are underway to determine what led to the fatal crash.

The deadly accident has once again drawn attention to the deteriorating condition of Syria’s road infrastructure, much of which suffered extensive damage during the country’s nearly 14-year civil war.

Poor road conditions, aging transport infrastructure and limited maintenance have contributed to a growing number of fatal road accidents across the country.

Last October, Syria’s Minister of Disaster Management and Emergency Response, Raed al-Saleh, revealed that more than 2,000 road traffic accidents had been recorded between January and the end of September, describing road crashes as among the country’s leading causes of death.

Saturday’s collision ranks among the deadliest road accidents reported in Syria in recent years and has renewed calls for improved road safety measures, better infrastructure maintenance and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
