Rwandan President Paul Kagame concluded Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s official working visit to Kigali with a friendly basketball session, symbolising the growing warmth and cooperation between the two neighbouring countries. The light-hearted game came after high-level discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, defence cooperation, and promoting regional peace, security, and stability.

During the visit, Gen Muhoozi held bilateral engagements with the senior leadership of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), including a meeting with President Kagame. Their discussions centered on enhancing military collaboration, deepening Uganda-Rwanda relations, and addressing shared regional security priorities. The visit underscores the commitment of both nations to maintaining close cooperation through continuous high-level engagement.

The basketball session, which also featured veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda, offered a relaxed conclusion to the official programme. Sharing photos from the game on social media platform X, Mwenda humorously reflected on his performance, joking that his mistakes on the court could earn him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the “most disastrous player of all time.” The photos captured President Kagame and Gen Muhoozi enjoying the friendly match while exchanging light moments.

Gen Muhoozi was received upon arrival in Kigali by Rwanda’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Mubarakh Muganga, accompanied by the Commander of the Republican Guard, Maj Gen Willy Rwagasana, and Uganda’s Defence Attaché to Rwanda, Col Ezekeil Matsiko. The visit marks another important milestone in the ongoing efforts by Uganda and Rwanda to deepen defence cooperation, strengthen diplomatic ties, and reinforce their shared commitment to regional stability.
