Religious leaders, politicians and hundreds of supporters on Monday gathered at the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) headquarters in Kyambogo, Kampala, for an interfaith thanksgiving service celebrating First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni’s recovery.
The service, organised by ONC Manager and Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, brought together religious leaders, Members of Parliament, presidential advisors, Women Council leaders, ONC coordinators and other guests.
Pastor Aloysius Bujingo of House of Prayer Ministries International was among the religious leaders who led the prayers, with participants thanking God for what they described as the First Lady’s recovery and continued wellbeing.
In his prayer, Pastor Bujingo drew inspiration from Psalm 46:1, which describes God as a refuge and source of strength in times of trouble.
The scripture, he said, offered a message of hope and reassurance to those who had prayed for the First Lady during a difficult period.
The service was characterised by prayers of thanksgiving, with religious leaders asking God to continue strengthening and protecting Ms Museveni and granting her many more years.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on the role of faith during periods of uncertainty, particularly when the First Lady’s health had generated concern among members of the public.
Hajjat Namyalo said the decision to organise the thanksgiving was rooted in the conviction that prayer remains important in moments when people face circumstances beyond their control.
She thanked the religious leaders and other guests for joining the service and for standing with the First Family through prayer.
The ONC manager also urged Ugandans to remain united despite their political and social differences, saying occasions of thanksgiving should remind citizens of the values that bring communities together.
The presence of leaders from different religious backgrounds, she said, demonstrated the importance of faith and unity in strengthening society.
The service also celebrated Ms Museveni’s contribution to public life, including her work in education, women and community development.
The First Lady, who is also Minister of Education and Sports, has remained a prominent figure in Uganda’s public life and has previously spoken publicly about the importance of faith in her life.
Earlier this year, President Yoweri Museveni disclosed that his wife had faced a serious health crisis and credited doctors and God for her recovery.
The thanksgiving at Kyambogo therefore served both as a prayer gathering and an expression of gratitude from supporters who said they were relieved by the First Lady’s return to better health.
The event ended with prayers for continued protection, good health and strength for Ms Museveni, President Museveni and their family.
