Ugandan singer Sheebah Karungi has opened up about an emotional childhood wound that she says is slowly being healed by watching her son, Amir, grow up with a loving and present father.
The singer praised her baby daddy, Jaffar Suleiman, for embracing fatherhood and being actively involved in their son’s life, saying his presence has touched her on a deeply personal level.
Sheebah became emotional after taking Amir and his sisters to school for the first time, a milestone that carried more meaning for her than simply marking the beginning of a new school chapter.
According to the singer, Jaffar extended his flight so he could be present for the special moment and personally experience his son’s first day at school.
For Sheebah, seeing the father of her child show up for such an important milestone triggered memories of her own upbringing.
The singer revealed that she grew up without a father or a father figure, making it particularly emotional for her to watch her son receive the paternal love and attention she missed as a child.
“There are some things that heal you in ways you can’t explain. As a girl who grew up without a father or a father figure, watching my son have a father who genuinely loves being a dad, shows up, and enjoys fatherhood so effortlessly… heals something in me,” Sheebah wrote.
Her words offered a rare glimpse into the personal side of motherhood and how her son’s experiences are allowing her to confront parts of her own childhood.
Rather than focusing solely on the challenges of raising a child, Sheebah chose to celebrate Jaffar’s involvement, expressing appreciation for his willingness to be present and actively embrace his responsibilities as a father.
The singer also thanked God for blessings she once never imagined she would have, describing Amir’s first day at preschool as an emotional and unforgettable experience.
For Sheebah, Jaffar’s decision to extend his trip and be there was about more than attending a school event. It represented a type of fatherly presence she says she did not have while growing up.
Watching her son experience that love, she suggested, has given her a form of healing she never expected to find through motherhood.
