Just Dare & See! Forgiveness Doesn’t Mean You’re Innocent: Gen Muhoozi Warns Anita Among Party Planners

    By Swift Reporter

Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has issued a strong warning against plans for a reported celebration for former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, saying anyone involved in the event will be arrested.

Muhoozi made the remarks on Tuesday in a post on X while responding to reports that a section of Members of Parliament is preparing to welcome Among back into public life with a gathering dubbed the “Pre-Speaker Party.”

“There will be ABSOLUTELY no party for AAA. We shall arrest anybody involved in that nonsense! Forgiving someone does not mean they do not have unresolved cases,” Muhoozi posted.

The warning comes after reports that some MPs were planning the September 16 gathering following President Yoweri Museveni’s reported decision to lift restrictions that had limited Among’s movements.

Among, the Bukedea Woman MP and former Speaker, has been at the centre of political and public scrutiny over allegations of corruption. The latest developments surrounding her have triggered debate over accountability, political leadership and the implications of her return to active public life.

According to reports, Masaka City Woman MP and State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere, a close ally of Among, is allegedly associated with plans for the proposed September 16 gathering.

The event, reportedly referred to as the “Pre-Speaker Party,” was expected by its organisers and supporters to mark Among’s return following months of restrictions on her movements.

However, Muhoozi’s intervention has dramatically changed the political temperature surrounding the planned celebration.

His message makes clear that, in his view, any decision to forgive or politically reconcile with an individual should not automatically be interpreted as clearing unresolved legal or accountability matters.

“Forgiving someone does not mean they do not have unresolved cases,” Muhoozi said.

Among recently welcomed the lifting of restrictions on her movements and expressed gratitude to President Museveni, describing the intervention as “parental grace.” She also indicated her readiness to resume her parliamentary responsibilities and continue representing the people of Bukedea.

The reported September 16 gathering was consequently viewed by her supporters as an opportunity to publicly welcome her back after a prolonged period of political uncertainty.

But Muhoozi’s warning could put the proposed celebration under fresh scrutiny, particularly if MPs or other prominent political figures proceed with the event.

The controversy also comes at a sensitive time for Parliament, where Among previously served as Speaker before the election of a new Speaker for the 12th Parliament.

For now, Muhoozi’s message has introduced a firm warning against turning Among’s return into a public celebration, with the senior military officer making it clear that he considers participation in the reported event unacceptable.

Whether the planned gathering proceeds as announced on September 16 now remains uncertain, following the unusually strong warning from Muhoozi.
