Wakiso: Two Dead, Nine Injured As Heavily Loaded Sino Truck Rams Into Vehicles

Two people have been killed and nine others injured in a fatal road crash involving four vehicles along the Kampala–Hoima Road in Wakiso District.

The crash occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at about 1:33pm at Nkoowe.

According to Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura, the vehicles involved were a Sino truck, registration number UBK 495F, a Toyota Hiace commuter taxi, UAT 272J, a Subaru Forester, UBB 353D, and a Toyota Wish, UBE 918T.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the Sino truck, which was carrying stones and travelling from Kakiri towards Kampala, lost control while at Nkoowe and rammed into the three vehicles.

Among those hit was a commuter taxi that had reportedly stopped to load passengers.

The impact proved fatal for the taxi driver and conductor, who died at the scene.

Nine passengers travelling in the commuter taxi were injured in the crash. Police said the injured comprised five adults and four juveniles.

Emergency responders attended to the victims as police commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Kananura said preliminary findings point to the loss of control by the stone-laden truck as the immediate cause of the collision, although investigations are ongoing.

Police have continued to urge motorists, particularly drivers of heavy vehicles, to exercise maximum caution and maintain control of their vehicles, especially along busy roads where vehicles frequently stop to pick up or drop off passengers.
