A male student at Mount Kenya University (MKU) main campus in Thika, Kenya, is reportedly under investigation after he was allegedly caught recording female students while they were taking showers at a university residence.
The incident, which reportedly occurred late Thursday night, has sparked outrage among students and raised fresh concerns about privacy and security within university accommodation facilities.
According to information surrounding the incident, female students using one of the campus residential facilities reportedly noticed a smartphone strategically positioned above a partition separating the shower stalls.
The discovery immediately alarmed the students, who raised an alert that attracted other residents and campus security personnel.
Security guards reportedly responded to the scene and apprehended the suspect before he could leave the premises. His mobile phone was subsequently confiscated and secured as potential evidence.
The suspect was later handed over to local police, who are expected to question him as investigations continue.
Authorities are now working to establish exactly what happened, including whether the phone was used to make recordings and whether any images or videos were stored or transmitted from the device.
The phone could therefore become a key piece of evidence as investigators examine its contents and determine whether any offence was committed.
The incident has triggered anger among students, with some calling for stronger measures to protect residents from privacy violations, particularly in areas such as bathrooms and shower facilities where students have a reasonable expectation of privacy.

The alleged incident has further renewed concerns over the misuse of smartphones and other recording devices to secretly capture individuals without their knowledge or consent.
MKU management and local authorities are reportedly pursuing investigations, and formal charges could follow depending on the outcome of the inquiry and any forensic examination of the confiscated device.
