Police in Masaka have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Natukunda Jackline, a resident of Lukaya, following investigations into the gruesome discovery of a human head and a headless body in separate locations in the district.
The suspects, identified as Kamugisha Kulaishi, 38, a moneylender and resident of Kasala LC I in Nyendo-Mukungwe Division, and a traditional healer from Kyotera District, are being investigated over the killing and alleged links to other murder cases.
According to a statement issued by SP Kasirye Twaha, the police spokesperson for Masaka East and West, the investigation began on September 29, 2026, after a human head wrapped in a white polythene bag was reportedly dumped at Kako Cell along the Kako-Mukungwe Road in Nyendo-Mukungwe Division.
The corresponding headless body was later recovered from Butale Cell in Kyanamukaka, prompting police to launch investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.
Police say subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the two suspects, with Kamugisha identified as the principal suspect in the case.
During the investigation, Kamugisha reportedly led detectives and Scenes of Crime Officers through a reconstruction of the crime scene, demonstrating how and where he allegedly picked up the victim from Lukaya before killing her.
According to police, the suspect further told investigators that the traditional healer had allegedly hired him to procure human body parts for Shs2 million, of which Shs250,000 had reportedly been paid in advance.
The alleged arrangement is now part of the ongoing investigation into the murder, although the claims have not yet been tested in court.
Police have also linked the principal suspect to two other murder cases reported in Nsangi, Wakiso District, and Sanga. Investigators allege that he disclosed consuming the heart of a victim in one of the incidents, claims that remain subject to further investigation.
The reported links have widened the scope of the inquiry as detectives seek to establish whether the killings were connected and whether other individuals may have been involved.
During a search at Kamugisha’s residence, detectives reportedly recovered a jacket, a pair of gumboots, a saucepan and assorted items suspected of being associated with ritual activities.
The exhibits have been secured for forensic examination to determine their relevance to the case and provide additional evidence to support the investigations.
Both suspects remain in police custody as detectives continue gathering evidence, verifying the allegations and investigating possible connections to other killings.
The case has raised fresh concerns over violent crime and the alleged procurement of human body parts for ritual purposes. However, police investigations are still ongoing, and the suspects remain innocent in the eyes of the law unless proven guilty by a competent court.
