The National Citizenship and Immigration Control has announced a temporary disruption of passport services at the Kyambogo Passport Issuance Centre and Jinja Regional Passport Office following technical challenges affecting operations.
In a public statement issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, the National Citizenship and Immigration Control (NCIC), under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said the Kyambogo centre, formerly known as Face Technologies, had become temporarily non-operational following a fibre-optic cable cut.
The disruption has affected passport issuance services at the centre, while the Jinja Regional Passport Office is also experiencing operational challenges and is currently unable to personalise or issue passports.
The development is likely to inconvenience applicants who had planned to collect or process their travel documents at the two facilities.
However, the ministry assured the public that other passport offices across the country remain operational.
These include the headquarters office, as well as regional offices in Mbale, Gulu, Mbarara and Arua, where passport services are continuing uninterrupted.
According to the statement, technical teams are working alongside service providers to restore operations at the affected offices as quickly as possible.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we work to resolve the issue,” the statement reads.
The announcement was signed by Simon Peter Mundeeyi, the Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson, who urged members of the public to use the ministry’s official communication channels for further information and to report related incidents.
Applicants intending to access passport services have been advised to take note of the disruption and consider using the operational passport offices where necessary.
The ministry said further efforts were underway to resolve the technical issues and restore normal service at Kyambogo and Jinja.
