Home Kindergarten & Primary School Holds Colourful Sports Day In Najeera

By Frank Kamuntu

Home Kindergarten and Primary School, Najeera, on Friday held a vibrant Sports Day at Kira Playgrounds, bringing together pupils, teachers, and parents in a celebration that blended competition with community spirit.

The event featured a range of activities including football, netball, volleyball, athletics, and lively band and parade performances, all showcasing the school’s emphasis on holistic education.

Speaking at the event, the school’s director, Mr. Edson Kisakye, praised the pupils for their spirited participation and thanked parents for braving the heavy rains to support their children.

“We have a population of over 500 students, and today’s event marks the end of the term. We are grateful to all parents who honoured our invitation. As children go for the holiday, I encourage you to keep them safe, engage them in home activities, and guide them in completing their holiday packages,” he said.

Mr. Kisakye noted that pupils had trained tirelessly to deliver their performances, adding that the day’s success reflected the school’s commitment to developing both academic and co-curricular talent.

The function was graced by a team from the Pan-African Pyramid (PAP), representing the organisation’s founding speaker and Spy Uganda CEO, Mr. Andrew Irumba, who was invited as guest of honour. His remarks, delivered by Ms. Kobusiinge Monica, stressed the need for education that balances academics with values, discipline, and cultural pride.

“The future of any nation is built in the classrooms of today. You, the pupils of this school, are not just students—you are future leaders, innovators, and defenders of Africa’s heritage,” Irumba’s message read in part.

He urged pupils to take pride in their culture, speak their native languages confidently, and resist the notion that abandoning African identity is necessary for success. Teachers, he said, were “frontline soldiers” in shaping character, while parents were reminded that values taught at home—such as honesty, hard work, and respect—outlast textbook knowledge.

Parents who attended the ceremony commended the school for balancing academics with co-curricular activities.

“My child has grown in confidence, discipline, and teamwork since joining here. Sports Day is not just about competition—it is about building friendships and learning the value of working together,” said one parent.

Others welcomed the school’s emphasis on Pan-African values, noting that cultural pride was an essential part of education.

The day ended with the awarding of trophies, cash prizes, and gifts to outstanding performers.
