Mayuge – The Speaker of Parliament and NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt. Hon. Anitah Annet Among, on Friday held a massive mobilization rally in Mayuge District, calling upon residents to rally behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the ruling NRM government ahead of his anticipated visit to the region next month.
The event, hosted by Hon. Iddi Isabirye (MP, Bunya South) at Bukizibu Primary School Grounds in Malongo Subcounty, drew tens of thousands of jubilant supporters and several key NRM leaders and flagbearers from the Busoga Subregion. Among the dignitaries were Hon. Moses Grace Balyeku, Hon. Solomon Silwany, Hon. Bwiire Sanon Kalema, Hon. Ekoro Alex, Hon. Mpaata Saleh, Ziija David, and Buikwe NRM Chairperson Aggrey Bagyire.
Also in attendance was Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs and Head of the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC), who electrified the crowd with her trademark energy, joining local artists including Gravity Omutujju in a vibrant show of solidarity with the youth and the “Bazzukulu”.
Infrastructure & Development Pledges
Speaker Among announced that the long-awaited 62-kilometre road stretch from Iganga to Mayuge will soon be tarmacked, a development she said would significantly boost trade and ease transportation across the Busoga subregion.
She further revealed that President Museveni is already addressing the Busoga Forest land disputes, assuring residents that a sustainable resolution is underway.
On the matter of sugarcane farming, the Speaker said government is finalizing a new law to eliminate the ongoing chaos in the sector and ensure fair benefit-sharing among out-growers and millers.
She also addressed concerns from fishermen and those working around Lake Victoria, noting that a comprehensive fisheries law has been drafted to streamline the industry and protect livelihoods.
Among added that government has increased funding under the Parish Development Model (PDM), confirming that each parish will now receive UGX 15 million to empower local leaders in supporting small-scale enterprises and boosting household incomes.
Health, Accountability & Road Works
Commending President Museveni for his consistent investment in health infrastructure, the Speaker announced that Mayuge Hospital will soon be upgraded to a district hospital, bringing specialized services closer to residents.
She also noted that UGX 1.3 billion had been released for road works in Buikwe District, promising to follow up on the implementation to ensure the funds reach their intended beneficiaries.
“We are coming to ensure thorough supervision. We want to see whether the money reaches the ground person — the real mwanainchi,” she emphasized.
Politics & Ideological Clarity
Touching on political matters, Among urged residents to remain steadfast behind the NRM, dismissing opposition parties — particularly the National Unity Platform (NUP) — as “purveyors of lies and confusion.” She accused them of spreading propaganda for sympathy votes instead of presenting tangible development programs.
“I was once in the opposition, and I know their tricks. They survive on lies to mislead Ugandans. But under the NRM, facts and results speak for themselves,” she remarked.
She further condemned what she termed “opposition alignment with Western immorality,” accusing NUP leaders of supporting homosexuality — something she said the government and the people of Uganda will never tolerate as it is “against African culture.”
Youth Empowerment & Unity
Among revealed that MP Isabirye had written to her requesting empowerment programs for ghetto youths, single mothers, and vulnerable community groups, pledging to give the matter her personal attention.
“It’s the reason I am here today — to listen, to empower, and to connect our people with government programs,” she affirmed.
During the same event, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo — affectionately called the “seasoned Muzukkulu” — rallied the people of Mayuge to “stand firm with Jajja Museveni,” praising the President as the only leader with a genuine vision for Uganda’s prosperity.
Her appearance climaxed with an energetic performance alongside singer Gravity Omutujju, leaving the crowd in “aweee” mode as the two danced to the rhythm of the Busoga drums — a symbolic celebration of NRM’s grassroots might.
