Drama In Kitgum: Man Killed After Being Accused Of Eating Friend’s ”Most Delicious” Roasted Rat

Police in Kitgum District have arrested a man accused of assaulting his friend to death following a dispute over roasted rat meat.

According to police sources, the incident occurred after the suspect discovered that one of his roasted rats was missing. He allegedly accused his friend, identified as Omony, of eating the meat without his permission, sparking a heated argument that later turned violent.

During the altercation, Omony sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Orom Health Centre for medical treatment. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The suspect was immediately arrested and is currently being held at Kitgum Central Police Station as investigations into the incident continue.

Police said Omony’s body was transferred to Namukora Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.

In many parts of Kitgum District and neighboring Lamwo District, roasted rats are widely consumed as a delicacy and also serve as a source of income for local communities. Depending on size, a roasted rat typically sells for between Shs500 and Shs1,000.
