Muhoozi Kainerugaba has publicly distanced himself from corruption allegations swirling around Anita Annet Among, declaring that he cannot support leaders accused of misusing public resources and insisting that the interests of ordinary Ugandans must come first.

In a series of strongly worded posts on X, Gen Muhoozi said the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) believes Parliament should receive less funding so that more government resources can be redirected to vulnerable Ugandans living without access to basic services.

“PLU believes in the reduction of any monies sent to Parliament. We believe in redirecting that money to the millions of Ugandans living in shacks, with no water or power,” he wrote.

The First Son and senior military officer said public office is meant to serve citizens rather than enrich leaders.

“Our job is to serve Ugandans, not ourselves. I cannot support corruption. I risked my life to make this country peaceful. Now that it is, it will not be taken by thieves. Never!” he stated.

Muhoozi’s remarks come amid intense political lobbying ahead of a possible contest for the Speakership of Parliament, where Anita Among is reportedly facing growing scrutiny over allegations related to her high-end Rolls-Royce Cullinan, which has drawn criticism from some Ugandans concerned about lavish spending by public officials.

In one of his most pointed comments, Muhoozi contrasted his own experience with that of leaders accused of extravagant lifestyles.

“I have been Mzee’s son for 52 years, but I have never sat in a Rolls-Royce. I don’t think Mzee has sat in one either,” he posted, referring to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

PLU To Back Museveni’s Preferred Candidate

Despite his anti-corruption stance, Muhoozi emphasized that PLU lawmakers and members aligned with the movement will support whichever candidate President Museveni endorses for Speaker.

“In the battle for Speaker of Parliament, all PLU MPs and PLU-leaning MPs will vote for whoever the President and Commander-in-Chief endorses. We shall support Mzee’s position,” he said.

He added that PLU does not take direction from the National Resistance Movement’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), asserting that the President’s decision would override any internal party resolutions.

“PLU supports whatever position President Museveni takes and we do not listen to NRM’s CEC. NRM CEC decisions that are against the will of the Chairman are null and void,” he wrote.

Mao Mentioned As Alternative Candidate

Muhoozi also hinted that PLU has identified an alternative candidate for the Speakership, although he did not reveal a name.

“We have another candidate… call him or her the PLU candidate,” he said.

He dismissed speculation that Norbert Mao could receive backing from PLU and the NRM, noting that Mao remains leader of the Democratic Party.

“My big brother Mao is DP. It’s impossible that NRM and PLU will vote for him,” Muhoozi posted.

Museveni’s Decision Will Prevail

Muhoozi concluded by stressing that the final outcome of the Speakership contest will depend entirely on President Museveni’s choice.

“Whether Anita or Mao or whoever, the will of Mzee will prevail,” he said.

The comments are likely to intensify political debate over leadership in Parliament and reinforce the growing influence of PLU within Uganda’s political landscape as attention turns to President Museveni’s eventual endorsement.
