The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has called on Ugandans to uphold peace, unity, and discipline as the country heads into the Christmas and New Year festivities, alongside the January 2026 general elections.
In her Christmas and New Year address, Hajjat Namyalo urged Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu, to celebrate responsibly and remain committed to peace before, during, and after the electoral process, emphasizing that stability remains the cornerstone of national development.
“As we celebrate Christmas and prepare to welcome the New Year, I call upon all Ugandans to remain peaceful and united. Peace is the backbone of our progress, and without it, we risk losing the gains we have worked so hard to achieve,” Namyalo said while addressing journalists at her offices in Kyambogo.
She underscored the importance of conducting the January 15 elections in a calm and orderly manner, encouraging citizens to make informed decisions that safeguard Uganda’s stability and development trajectory.
“I appeal to all Ugandans to maintain peace during the January 15 elections and to vote wisely. Let us vote for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the next President so that we can protect the gains of peace, economic transformation, and national unity,” she added.
Hajjat Namyalo also issued a strong caution to political leaders against inciting violence or exploiting young people for personal political gain. She expressed concern over the growing trend of youths being mobilized into acts of disorder, which often leave them vulnerable to arrest, imprisonment, and long-term social and economic consequences.
“Some selfish political actors use our young people to cause chaos, but when these youths are arrested or imprisoned, they are abandoned. Their families are left to suffer in poverty and frustration, while the leaders who misled them remain unaffected,” she said.
She called on political leaders across the country to exercise responsibility and restraint, stressing that leadership should be rooted in protecting lives and securing the future of the next generation.
“Our young people are our future. Leaders must stop using them as tools for violence. True leadership is about guiding, protecting, and empowering them — not sacrificing them for selfish ambitions,” Namyalo emphasized.
She concluded by wishing Ugandans a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year, reaffirming the Office of the National Chairman’s commitment to promoting unity, patriotism, and socio-economic empowerment nationwide.
“I wish all Ugandans a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Let us choose peace, unity, and progress for our country,” she said.
