Opinion | It’s Experience Over Experiment—Museveni Is Uganda’s Finest Choice In 2026, No Time For NUP’s Political Gamble

Uganda’s political journey has been shaped by moments of uncertainty, recovery, and steady transformation. As the country looks toward the 2026 elections, it is important to reflect honestly on leadership that has delivered stability, national cohesion, and sustained development. For more than three decades, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) have provided that anchor.
When the NRM took power in 1986, Uganda was a fractured state economically weak, politically divided, and socially insecure. Today, Uganda stands as one of the most stable countries in the region. Peace, once elusive, is now taken for granted by a generation that did not witness the chaos of the past. This stability did not happen by chance; it was built deliberately through disciplined leadership, a professional security sector, and a clear national vision.
Under President Museveni, Uganda has recorded consistent progress in infrastructure development. Roads, electricity generation, oil and gas investments, and regional connectivity have laid the foundation for industrialisation and trade. These are long-term projects that require continuity, institutional memory, and leadership experience qualities that President Museveni has demonstrated over time.
Equally important is Uganda’s transformation in education and human capital development. Universal Primary Education, Universal Secondary Education, the expansion of universities, and skills-based training have empowered millions of young Ugandans. While challenges remain, the direction has been clear: inclusive access and national capacity-building.
The NRM’s emphasis on wealth creation through programmes such as Operation Wealth Creation, the Parish Development Model, and agricultural modernisation reflects an understanding that political stability must be matched with household-level economic empowerment. These initiatives aim to move Ugandans from subsistence to commercial participation, especially in rural areas that form the backbone of the economy.
President Museveni’s leadership has also positioned Uganda as a respected regional actor. Through diplomacy and security cooperation, Uganda has played a stabilising role in East and Central Africa. This regional standing enhances national security and opens doors for trade and investment.
Critics mainly National Unity Platform (NUP) which is politically gambling and staggering, often focuses on Museveni’s longevity without adequately weighing performance, context, and national interest. Leadership should be judged not only by duration but by outcomes. In a region where abrupt political transitions have frequently led to instability, continuity backed by experience can be a strategic asset.
As a mobiliser and party leader at the grassroots, I have witnessed firsthand the confidence many citizens place in President Museveni’s leadership. Their concerns are practical: peace, livelihoods, infrastructure, and opportunity for their children. These are areas where the NRM has a record to present not a promise built on speculation.
The question before the nation is not merely about personalities, but about safeguarding progress while managing transition responsibly. Uganda’s development path requires steady hands, institutional strength, and a leader who understands both the history and the future of the country.
In my view, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s leadership and the NRM’s guiding philosophy remain central to Uganda’s stability and continued transformation and therefore, this explains why the man from Rwakitura still deserves another term to help protect our gains. Continuity, when anchored in experience and results, should not be feared it should be thoughtfully considered.
