Every Life Matters! Victoria University, UBTS Launch Blood Donation Drive To Save Lives

    By Frank Kamuntu

Victoria University Kampala has partnered with the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service (UBTS) to organize a blood donation drive aimed at boosting the country’s blood supply and saving lives.

The initiative, scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2026, will take place at the university premises from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., offering students, staff, and the general public an opportunity to contribute to a critical national cause.

In a communication, the Vice Chancellor, Dr Lawrence Muganga, called on eligible individuals to participate in the exercise, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in saving lives.

“Saving a life is a shared responsibility. I urge everyone who is eligible to come forward and donate. One small act can make a very big difference to someone in need,” Dr. Muganga said.

He added that the theme of the drive, “Saving a Life, A Shared Responsibility, A Drop for Hope,” reflects the university’s commitment to making a tangible impact in society, particularly in supporting patients who require urgent and ongoing medical care.

The blood donation drive comes at a time when healthcare facilities across Uganda continue to rely heavily on voluntary donors to meet the growing demand for blood, especially in emergency situations, surgeries, and treatment of chronic illnesses.

Organizers say the event is open to all eligible donors, who are encouraged to stop by at their convenience during the day and make a life-saving contribution.

Beyond this initiative, Victoria University has built a strong reputation for community outreach and humanitarian efforts. The institution has on several occasions participated in life-saving programs and charity activities. Most recently, it partnered with the Ruparelia Foundation during the Rajiv Ruparelia Eye Camp in Bukedea, where thousands of Ugandans received free eye treatment and medical support.

Medical experts note that a single unit of donated blood can save multiple lives, underscoring the importance of such community-driven initiatives.

University officials expressed optimism that the upcoming drive will attract a strong turnout and further strengthen a culture of giving among young people and the wider community.

The event will also include awareness campaigns to educate participants on the importance of regular blood donation and maintaining a sustainable national blood supply.
