Mbarara District NRM Chairperson Prosper Tuhaise Kururagire has strongly endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s renewed commitment to fighting corruption, declaring that the President’s seventh term will mark a turning point in Uganda’s battle against misuse of public resources.
Speaking shortly after President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Independence Grounds on Tuesday, Prosper delivered a blunt warning to public officials and individuals involved in graft.
“It is high time those who have been taking corruption to bury themselves. Let them not wait for what President Museveni is going to do to them,” Prosper said.
The colorful inauguration ceremony attracted several African Heads of State, foreign delegations, senior government officials, and thousands of supporters from across the country and beyond, as President Museveni officially began a new five-year term after winning the January 15, 2026 presidential election.
Prosper praised the President’s inaugural address, describing it as one of the most powerful and practical speeches ever delivered by Museveni.
He said the President’s declaration that the new administration would be a “term of no sleep and no more corruption” sent a clear message that abuse of public funds would no longer be tolerated.
“I was deeply inspired by the President’s speech. For the first time, he has spoken with extraordinary clarity that corruption must end. I believe this is the term in which corruption will be decisively kicked out of Uganda,” Prosper said.
He added that Museveni’s emphasis on accountability, wealth creation, and job generation demonstrated his determination to ensure every government program benefits ordinary citizens.
In his inaugural speech, President Museveni urged Ugandans to take an active role in monitoring government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Operation Wealth Creation, and Uganda Development Bank financing.
The President emphasized that poverty eradication and national transformation would only succeed if public resources reached intended beneficiaries.
“The message of the NRM is two words: wealth and job creation,” President Museveni said.
He challenged citizens to use local democratic structures and Parish SACCOs to ensure funds are not diverted by corrupt individuals.
“If anybody is diverting the money, you are empowered to deal with him or her,” the President stated.
Museveni stressed that with peace, infrastructure, markets, and government support already in place, Ugandans now have no excuse not to participate in wealth and job creation.
Prosper Expresses Full Confidence In Museveni
Prosper said he has absolute trust in President Museveni’s leadership and believes the anti-corruption campaign will unlock even greater development.
“President Museveni has already given Ugandans peace, roads, electricity, education, and access to markets. If corruption is eliminated, there will be no limit to what our country can achieve,” he said.
He particularly welcomed the President’s focus on strengthening the Parish Development Model, value addition, industrialization, and skills-based education.
“The President has laid out a practical roadmap. When PDM money reaches the right people, when industries create jobs, and when our young people acquire relevant skills, Uganda will move rapidly into higher middle-income status.”
Prosper also commended Museveni’s broader vision of transforming Uganda and Africa through industrialization, regional integration, and value addition to raw materials.
He noted that the President’s strategy to process Uganda’s coffee, minerals, and agricultural products locally would create millions of jobs and significantly increase national income.
“Museveni is not just thinking about Uganda today; he is planning for generations to come. His vision of wealth creation and job creation is exactly what Africa needs.”
As President Museveni embarks on his historic seventh term, Prosper said Ugandans should prepare for a new era defined by hard work, vigilance, and zero tolerance for corruption.
“The President has spoken clearly. This is no longer a time for excuses. Every leader must account for public resources, and every citizen must play a role in protecting government programs.”
He called upon all Ugandans, especially the youth and the bazzukulu, to support the President’s agenda and actively participate in transforming their communities.
“I fully trust President Museveni’s leadership. If we all embrace his message and reject corruption, Uganda is destined for even greater prosperity.”
President Museveni’s inauguration was held under the theme “Protecting the Gains as We Make a Qualitative Leap into Higher Middle Income Status.”
