Breaking! Gen Muhoozi Breaks Silence On Matembe’s Alleged Abduction; ”Her Time Is Over”

By Swift Reporter

The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has ignited fresh controversy after launching a social media attack on veteran politician and women’s rights activist Dr Miria Matembe, whose family says she has been missing since security operatives raided her Luzira home earlier this week.

In a series of posts on X, formerly Twitter, Muhoozi attacked the former Ethics and Integrity minister, describing her as “a very OLD, UGLY woman” and warning that he would “teach her the manners her many husbands should have taught her.”

“I hear there is a woman called MATEMBE. She thinks she is anything other than a very OLD, UGLY woman? I’m going to teach her the manners her many husbands should have taught her!” Muhoozi wrote.

He continued: “I have very beautiful young daughters. I can’t have IDIOTS like Matembe anywhere near them.”

In a third post, the army commander declared: “Matembe’s time is OVER! Let her open her STUPID MOUTH ANYWHERE again!”

The remarks have intensified public concern over Matembe’s safety, coming just days after her family reported that she disappeared following a security operation at her home in Luzira.

Relatives say they have been unable to establish contact with the veteran politician since security operatives searched her residence while she was away on her routine morning jog.

Media personality JK Kazoora, a relative of Matembe, said the family fears she may have encountered security personnel while exercising.

“They went to her home in Luzira, but she was not there because she had gone jogging. We suspect they could have met her while jogging and taken her,” Kazoora said.

Her husband, Nehemiah Matembe, said the family has not heard from her since the raid and appealed for her release.

“We don’t know where she is. Ever since the raid, we have not heard from her. We appeal to whoever has Matembe to release her to return home,” he said.

According to the family, a team comprising uniformed soldiers and plain-clothed operatives arrived at the couple’s home in a vehicle commonly referred to as a “drone” and searched the premises without identifying themselves or explaining the purpose of the operation.

The operatives reportedly searched every room before leaving without making an arrest or issuing any explanation.

The family believes the team intended to arrest Matembe but found she had already left for her morning exercise. Her mobile phones later became unreachable.

The incident has drawn condemnation from women’s rights groups and civil society organisations, which have accused security agencies of disregarding due process.

Human rights activist Dr Sarah Bireete said security personnel also raided her home after apparently suspecting she was hiding Matembe.

Opposition figures have also condemned the operation, with Barbie Kyagulanyi expressing solidarity with Matembe and describing the raids as part of a wider pattern of intimidation targeting government critics.

Matembe, one of the architects of Uganda’s 1995 Constitution, served as Minister of Ethics and Integrity before falling out with the ruling National Resistance Movement in 2003 over her opposition to the removal of presidential term limits.

In recent years, she has emerged as one of the government’s most outspoken critics, frequently speaking out against alleged human rights abuses, enforced disappearances and the growing role of the military in politics.

By the time of publication, security agencies had not issued an official statement on Matembe’s reported disappearance or responded to the allegations surrounding the raid on her home. Likewise, Gen Muhoozi had not provided further context for his remarks, which came amid continuing uncertainty over the former minister’s whereabouts.
