Traffic Police have broken their silence over the black Land Cruiser linked to singer Bebe Cool, clarifying that the vehicle has not been intercepted during the ongoing Operation Tekeleza Sheria because officers enforce the crackdown on roads and at designated enforcement points rather than searching for vehicles at their owners’ homes.
Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said the operation is focused on vehicles found committing targeted traffic offences, including those with missing or concealed number plates and those fitted with unauthorised sirens and lights.
“Officers do not search for vehicles at people’s homes. Vehicles are intercepted when found on the road and within enforcement points,” Kananura said.
His comments come amid growing questions from motorists and social media users over what they described as selective enforcement after the Land Cruiser associated with Bebe Cool was seen without ordinary registration plates.
Kananura, however, stressed that no vehicle or individual is exempt from the operation simply because police have not yet intercepted them.
“The fact that a particular vehicle has not yet been intercepted does not mean it is exempt or protected,” he said.
The vehicle has also attracted questions over its lights and the singer’s movement with security personnel. However, there has been no official confirmation in the information provided that the vehicle is operating unlawfully or whether it has any applicable exemption.
The questions gained further attention after police announced that 18 drivers were arrested in Mukono on September 23, 2026, over vehicles fitted with illegal sirens and lights.
Kananura did not disclose whether officers had specifically examined Bebe Cool’s vehicle or attempted to stop it.
He said the crackdown would continue at different locations and times, urging motorists to remove unauthorised equipment and ensure that their number plates are properly displayed.
Kananura also cautioned motorists against assuming that avoiding an enforcement point means they will permanently escape the ongoing operation.
“Those who continue violating the law should not assume they will evade enforcement indefinitely,” he said.
