Mr Jay Sakaria, Vice Chairperson of Victoria University Council, and Ms Meera Ruparelia, a member of the university’s Board of Directors, represented businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia at the institution’s 10th Graduation Ceremony held at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
The two attended the landmark academic event on behalf of Dr Sudhir, the Ruparelia Group chairman whose investment and support have been instrumental in Victoria University’s development over the years.
Their presence at the ceremony underscored the Ruparelia family’s continued connection to the university, which has steadily expanded its profile in Uganda’s higher education sector since its establishment.
During the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Muganga expressed heartfelt appreciation to Dr Sudhir and the Ruparelia Group, recognising their contribution to the institution’s growth and development.
Prof. Muganga particularly thanked Dr Sudhir for being a pillar of the university’s progress, acknowledging the importance of his support in helping Victoria University advance its ambitions and strengthen its position within Uganda’s competitive higher education landscape.
Dr Sudhir was represented at an occasion that celebrated not only the achievements of graduating students but also the partnerships and leadership structures supporting the university’s journey.
Mr Sakaria’s position as Vice Chairperson of the University Council places him among the institution’s key governance leaders, while Ms Meera’s membership on the Board of Directors gives her a role in its strategic oversight.
Their participation provided a direct link between the university’s governance and the celebrations marking its first decade of academic achievement.
VU 10th Graduation Ceremony comes amid growing attention to the university’s academic performance. In the National Council for Higher Education’s revised institutional ranking report, Victoria University reportedly scored 87.4, placing it second nationally behind Makerere University.
With its first decade behind it, Victoria University now faces the task of building on its achievements, strengthening academic quality and preparing graduates to contribute to Uganda’s social and economic transformation.
