A Zimbabwean woman has sparked widespread debate about marriage, love and family life after revealing how she lives with two husbands under one roof, with the three reportedly sharing household responsibilities and making plans to raise a child together.
The woman, whose story was featured in a documentary-style video published on the Hasta World YouTube channel, said she personally approached both men and proposed marriage to them, challenging conventional expectations about courtship and relationships in her community.
According to her account, her unusual marital journey began when she met her first husband working in the fields. She said she was attracted to his work ethic and determination, which convinced her that he was the man she wanted to spend her life with.
Rather than waiting for him to initiate courtship, she reportedly took the bold step of expressing her desire to marry him. Although the proposal initially surprised him, the two eventually married and began building their life together.
However, four years into the marriage, the woman decided to bring another man into their family, explaining that her first husband was growing older and needed additional support with the responsibilities of their household.
She subsequently approached a second man and proposed marriage, reportedly explaining the existing arrangement before he agreed to join the family.
One of the most striking aspects of their relationship is how they manage their private lives. The woman explained that each husband has his own bedroom, while she decides which of the two men she spends the night with.
Despite the unconventional arrangement, the first husband reportedly said his affection for his wife had grown stronger since the second man joined the household.
“Even though there’s now a second husband, I have actually learned to love my wife even more than before,” he reportedly said in the video.
He added that he was grateful the couple had not divorced but had instead found a way to address the challenges they faced in their marriage.
The men have also reportedly divided household responsibilities according to their abilities. One handles domestic duties, including cooking and cleaning, while the other takes on physically demanding tasks outside the home.
The second husband, meanwhile, said he understood the circumstances before joining the family and maintained that his feelings for the woman were genuine.
“I don’t think she used a love potion on me,” he reportedly said, dismissing suggestions that supernatural forces could explain his willingness to share a wife.
The woman further revealed that the family hopes to have a child when the time is right, with the child expected to be raised within their shared family arrangement.
She also suggested that the possibility of introducing a third husband had not been completely ruled out, although any such decision would require an explanation acceptable to her current partners.
The arrangement has reportedly drawn mixed reactions from members of the community, some of whom struggle to understand how two men can share one wife without persistent conflict. Others have speculated about possible supernatural influences, claims that remain unsubstantiated.
While the family maintains that their arrangement works for them, questions remain about the practical and emotional challenges that could emerge over time.
