Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced the arrest of a man he described as the personal witchdoctor of retired military officer Peter Elweru, as security operations to track down the former officer continue in the Teso sub-region.
In a post on X, Muhoozi said the suspect was arrested on Friday, October 30, adding that although the man presents himself as a pastor, he is involved in what the army chief described as devil worship.
“Yesterday, we arrested Elweru’s personal witchdoctor. He claims to be a pastor. Yet he is worshipping the devil every day. The noose is tightening,” Muhoozi posted.
The announcement marks another development in the ongoing security operation targeting Elweru, who has been accused by the military leadership of involvement in activities described as criminality.
In previous updates, Muhoozi said security forces had recovered additional firearms and ammunition allegedly hidden by the retired officer in different locations. He also announced the arrest of Elweru’s driver and the seizure of a vehicle he reportedly used.
The army chief further said that more than 20 former soldiers allegedly associated with Elweru had been arrested and were cooperating with investigators.
Muhoozi has repeatedly urged Elweru to surrender, at one point directing soldiers to capture him alive rather than kill him, saying he wanted to speak to him personally.
The latest arrest suggests that security agencies are widening their efforts to establish the people and networks allegedly connected to the former officer as the search continues.
