Police have launched emergency rescue operations following the collapse of a church building under construction at Holy City Church, Brother Ronnies Ministries, in Bwerenga, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District.
The incident occurred on Monday evening, with police confirming that approximately 22 people had been rescued by the time of the announcement and were being evacuated to Entebbe Grade B Hospital for medical attention.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said rescue teams were still working at the scene to establish whether other people remained trapped beneath the rubble.
Preliminary findings indicate that the collapsed structure was an extension of the main church building and had reached the fourth floor before the incident.
Authorities have yet to establish the circumstances that led to the collapse, with investigations underway to determine its cause.
Police have not yet provided a confirmed account of the total number of people who were at the site when the structure came down or whether there were additional casualties.
