Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane has won the 2026 Ballon d’Or after an outstanding season, while Spain international Alexia Putellas claimed the women’s award for the third time.
Harry Kane has been crowned the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner, capping a remarkable campaign in which he combined prolific goalscoring with major team achievements for Bayern Munich and the England national team.
The 33-year-old striker received football’s most prestigious individual honour at Monday’s ceremony at the London Palladium in the United Kingdom.
Kane becomes the first Englishman to win the men’s Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen achieved the feat in 2001, ending a 25-year wait for an English winner.
The Bayern Munich forward enjoyed the most productive season of his career in 2025-26, scoring 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions as the German giants secured a domestic league and cup double.
He also scored six goals at the World Cup, helping England reach the semi-finals and further strengthening his reputation as one of the leading strikers in world football.
Kane Beats Mbappe and Yamal to Ballon d’Or
Kane faced strong competition for the award, with France captain Kylian Mbappe and Spain’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal among the leading contenders.
However, the England captain’s consistency, finishing ability and influence throughout the season proved decisive in the voting.
Mbappe finished second, while Yamal placed third. Rodri and Lionel Messi completed the top five, according to the announced rankings.
Kane’s triumph represents the culmination of a career defined by perseverance and steady development.
After initially struggling to establish himself at Tottenham Hotspur, the striker progressed through several loan spells before becoming one of the Premier League’s most prolific goalscorers.
His move to Bayern Munich in 2023 provided him with an opportunity to compete regularly for major trophies, adding another dimension to a career already distinguished by individual scoring records.
Speaking after receiving the award, Kane expressed his gratitude to those who had supported him throughout his journey, including his former coaches, Tottenham Hotspur and his wife, Kate.
He also encouraged young people to remain committed to their ambitions despite setbacks.
Kane said his career demonstrated that success was possible through hard work, persistence and determination, even for players who did not immediately rise to the top.
Kane Adds Ballon d’Or to Remarkable Career
Kane’s Ballon d’Or victory marks a significant milestone in a career built on goalscoring excellence, consistency and leadership.
Having established himself as England’s all-time leading goalscorer, the Bayern Munich striker has now secured one of football’s most coveted individual prizes.
His achievement also highlights the impact of his move to Germany, where he has continued to deliver outstanding performances while competing for domestic and international honours.
With the 2026 Ballon d’Or now secured, Kane has further cemented his place among the leading forwards of his generation.
