The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced the arrest of a suspected serial killer accused of murdering and cannibalising 38 people across Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo districts over a 15-year period.
In a statement on Monday, Muhoozi identified the suspect as Moses Mujurizi, describing him as one of Uganda’s most notorious alleged serial killers and promising a public trial.
“I am glad to inform our fellow citizens that the security forces have arrested the evil Mujurizi Moses. The worst serial killer and cannibal in Uganda’s history,” Muhoozi said.

“He killed and ate 38 people between 2010-2025 in Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo. We will try him in public and definitely execute him.”
Muhoozi’s announcement comes amid renewed investigations into a series of killings in Greater Masaka, where police have recently reopened murder files dating back more than a decade.
According to the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report for 2025, the country registered 4,238 homicide cases, down from 4,329 in 2024.
The report also recorded 61 ritual murder cases in 2025, compared with 72 in 2024.
Murder by assault accounted for 1,326 cases, while mob violence accounted for another 950. Stay tuned for more updates.
