Uganda Aviation Academy Ltd (UAA) has strengthened its aviation training capacity following the acquisition of a Cessna 421 Golden Eagle aircraft from Safari Air International AAA Ltd, in another major step towards its ambition of positioning Uganda as a regional aviation training hub.

The aircraft, registration number 5X-VIP, adds to the Academy’s growing aviation development programme, which is focused on expanding its training infrastructure, modernising aviation education and equipping more Ugandans with the skills required to compete in the aviation industry.

The acquisition marks another milestone in the institution’s long-term fleet expansion strategy, which seeks to improve practical aviation training while exposing students to more advanced aircraft systems and technologies.

The Cessna 421 Golden Eagle is a pressurised, twin-engine piston aircraft widely recognised for its executive transport capabilities, sophisticated systems and high-performance characteristics.

Its addition is expected to enhance technical familiarisation, aircraft systems education, aviation maintenance training and other approved aviation programmes, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.

Speaking about the development, Uganda Aviation Academy Board Chairperson, Mrs Yogi Birigwa, described the acquisition as an important step towards strengthening the institution’s capacity and advancing its long-term vision.

The Academy’s Executive Director, Mr Rodney Mukula, will oversee the integration of the aircraft into the institution’s wider fleet development strategy, subject to applicable Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) approvals.

The latest acquisition comes as UAA pursues an even bigger expansion programme involving eight additional training aircraft and two flight simulators, alongside plans to expand its aviation training centres in Entebbe and Jinja.

The ambitious investment is expected to strengthen the Academy’s ability to deliver practical and specialised aviation training while increasing opportunities for aspiring aviation professionals in Uganda and the wider East and Central African region.

With 15 years of experience in aviation education and training, Uganda Aviation Academy has continued to position itself as an important player in developing the human resource capacity required to support the growth of the aviation industry.

The institution’s expansion also comes at a time when the demand for skilled aviation professionals and modern training infrastructure remains an important consideration in Africa’s aviation development.

Through investments in aircraft, flight simulators and training facilities, the Academy seeks to provide students with greater exposure to practical aviation environments and the technical knowledge needed to pursue careers across different segments of the industry.

However, the introduction of the Cessna 421 into any flight-training operation will be subject to appropriate maintenance arrangements, continuing-airworthiness compliance, approved training specifications and authorisation by UCAA.

As the Academy continues implementing its expansion agenda, the acquisition of 5X-VIP signals its determination to strengthen its training capabilities and contribute to Uganda’s ambition of becoming a competitive destination for aviation education.
